Kids Alive is the only organization in the Denver Metro/Front Range area that provides this kind of support for children of parents with cancer. This unique and invaluable program is offered at no charge to any family where a parent is dealing with a cancer diagnosis. The program is supported completely by private donations and grants. Program Goals & Objectives

  1. To provide a safe, helpful environment for children of cancer patients to express their feelings.
  2. To create a place for a child to be a child….to experience fun, support and continuity of life….apart from catastrophic illness.
  3. To facilitate a better relationship between cancer patients and their families, reducing guilt and anxiety in children.
  4. To help parents interpret their children's behavior as adaptive to the trauma in the family.
  5. To develop awareness of resources for both parents and children.

Founders/Facilitators

Madelyn Case, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Lakewood, Colorado. She has worked with children as a teacher, counselor and psychotherapist for over 30 years.

Jeanne Currey, RN, MN is the clinical nurse specialist for oncology support services at Porter and Littleton Hospitals in Denver, Colorado. She has held this position for the past 14 years.

Volunteers

Kids Alive has a staff of approximately 10 volunteers who assist with the group. Various professions and occupations are represented in the volunteer staff. Many of them had a parent who was ill or lost a parent to cancer when they were children.
