"Kids
Alive" was founded in l995 in response to the voiced concerns of participants
in a breast cancer support group that there was a lack of organized support
for the children of breast cancer patients. The group was first funded by
the Denver Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, who recognized the
need for this kind of support. Eventually, "Kids Alive" expanded
to include children whose parents had any cancer diagnosis. It has continued
on an annual basis since 1995, meeting nine times per year, on a monthly
basis, serving children ages 6-16.
The purpose of Kids Alive is to serve children ages six to sixteen by helping them contend with the trauma of a parent's diagnosis of cancer by providing a secure and healthy environment in which they can express their feelings.
